Guidebooks are published principally for the purposes of tourists or visitors to our area. Please note that I have distinguished between guidebooks and history books, where history books (in my limited knowledge) were written more for the purposes of understanding the history of our area, and therefore the principal reader might be assumed to be the local dweller or interested historian. History books are listed separately.

Seamill HydropathicNote. James Newbigging followed his Minister Rev Kirk from Edinburgh to help him establish the Seamill Hydropathic in 1874. He was originally a joiner (carpenter) but re-trained as a hydropathic bathsman in order to operate the business. In 1887, following the death of Rev. Kirk, he became the sole proprietor. Rev. Kirk was also instrumental in the establishment of the Good Templars Hall in West Kilbride (now situated above the Kings Arms Pub) which was a Temperance establishment with meeting rooms.
