Village Voice

Village Voice was a colour magazine produced by a team of individuals under the editorial command of Charlie Garratt (the local vet) and Peter Fry. It was introduced after the cessation of the original Village View magazine which was established and run for a number of years by Stephen Brown (editor of this website) and Scott Brady in the mid 1980’s.

Transition article village view to village voiceIssue 1 in the Spring of 1999 included a call to the community to get involved plus a photo and article of two local young ladies (sisters) who were very talented at classical music – Nicola and Stephanie Benedetti.

The magazine ran (as far as we can find) until Issue 22 which came out in Autumn 2004. Charlie Garratt died suddenly in 2008 (Obituary) after which the West Kilbride Environment Group decided to name the quarry, which he had secured for the group, after him – now known as Garratt Gardens. Note – Charlie himself frequently spelled his own name differently in the magazine.
